Opinions on an old poem?
I found this lying around on my computer. I wrote it after an argument with my mother quite some time ago and thought it was an odd piece. What do you think?
Empty Love
Reaching out to touch
What once was nothingness
No one is there again
Whispering to me,
“Everything will be all right
Everything will be fine
Mommy’s here. Please don’t cry”
Empty arms embrace me
And angry kisses burn me
Tears of love sting like bees
And angry angels screech
My heart is pierced again
And in my hands’ the knife
But you led by example
This bright and dreary night
In the empty everything
The lies of truth reveal
To hurt oneself so horribly
Is the only way to heal
And as the stars fade happily
The ground below opens up to me
Finally, finally
Peace on the eve of war
It almost seems as if you're reaching out to someone, expecting them to push you away. In return you'll be angry, but at the same time be stronger by it. I believe you should continue to write after really high or low points and if this is what calms you, it could be some of your best work. Just being able to concentrate on writing after a fight is a gift in itself.
